Description

An exuberant bouquet of crimson flowers bursts from a delicate glass vase in this luminous French still life by Lucienne Bisson (1880–1939). The confident brushwork, vibrant palette, and loose Impressionist handling reflect the artistic world in which Bisson was raised—one shaped by her father, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, while ultimately developing into a style distinctly her own.

Born into one of France's most celebrated artistic families, Lucienne Bisson was the daughter of Impressionist master Pierre-Auguste Renoir and painter Frédérique Vallet-Bisson. She studied in Paris before exhibiting regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Indépendants during the early twentieth century. While she painted landscapes and Parisian scenes, her richly textured floral still lifes remain among her most sought-after works today.

Painted circa 1925–1935, this composition beautifully captures Bisson's mature style. Thick, expressive brushstrokes, luminous color, and an effortless sense of movement bring the bouquet to life while paying homage to the French Impressionist tradition.
