The flowers nearly fill the upper half of the composition, their warm tomato, coral, and dusty rose tones popping dramatically against blocks of charcoal, smoky blue, deep brown, and black.
What makes this one especially good is the composition. The artist has taken a traditional vase of flowers and treated the surrounding interior almost abstractly—flattened planes of color, strong geometric lines, and that fabulous burgundy patterned textile sweeping across the table. Even the glass vase feels sculptural, loosely revealing green stems and water beneath its smoky gray surface.
