Peaches Peaches Peaches

A petite French still life featuring a wonderfully simple pile of peaches, their warm russet, ochre, and soft golden tones set against an earthy olive ground. Dark green leaves weave through the fruit, while loose highlights of yellow and coral give the peaches that perfectly imperfect, just-picked quality.

Painted in 1928, this little study has exactly the unfussy charm we look for in early 20th-century French art. The compact scale makes it especially easy to tuck into a gallery wall, prop on a kitchen shelf, or layer among larger pieces.

Signed “J. Malaret” lower right and dated 1928. The reverse retains an old handwritten label bearing the artist's name and the date 22-1-28, a lovely bit of history that has stayed with the painting for nearly a century.
